DESCRIPTION: the I-8 Tusk Cat was released immediately following the release of the I-7 Howlrunner and looked very similar to its predecessor though it featured a large twin side-by-side cockpit to accommodate a flight instructor and trainee with dual controls. Never intended for frontline combat service, the I-8 was a dedicated trainer and as such it lacked the shields and secondary power plant of the earlier I-7 and later I-9 models and was equipped with four blaster cannons which were even weaker than the I-7 Howlrunner's notoriously weak twin lasers. It was smaller then the I-7 but was significantly slower though it was almost as maneuverable and in a pinch it could be pressed into the fighter role though this was not recommended by Incom. The Empire showed little interest in the Tusk Cat though some were acquired for testing and training purposes and Incom was forced to turn to the open market where they were able to sell the design to various flight schools and even clients who were seeking a cheap light fighter. Ironically, the Tusk Cat found its way into the hands of the newly formed New Republic where it proved a popular training craft as its controls were comparable to the T-65 X-wing, itself an Incom design. The New Republic commenced official acquisition of the I-8 began as the Tusk Cat's easy handling and forgiving controls made it an ideal trainer and Incom found itself selling the craft to the Republic to train pilots for the X-wing whose design team's defection had sparked Incom's pariah status within the Imperial military to begin with.
Another of my Star Wars fighter designs inspired by the Buck Rogers' fighter designs.
