Tyra landed in a crouch, the snow biting her cheek with razor thin needles. She drew upon the Force to warm her body, dispelling the discomfort and clearing her senses. She was far from safe, even after the tumble down the icy cliff face and the mad escape from the patrolling Imperials. What they were doing on Hoth was beyond her. She found no answers in the infinite stream of the Force, only the incessant insistence that she was still very much in danger. She reached out around her, searching for a sign of malice that would signal the presence of her pursuers.
Once more she felt the beckoning call from what had once been called Echo Base decades ago. It was that calling which had summoned her here to the icy planet and had resulted in her subsequent stranding when the Imperials destroyed her ship shortly after landing and beginning her investigation. For the moment, she pushed aside the call from the long abandoned base and focused on the immediacy of her surroundings, searching, searching…there.
She ducked and rolled as a torrent of blasterfire tore through the air where she'd been standing moments before. Coming to her feet, her lightsaber's vibrant green blade extended out and swung up into a guard position as she swatted aside the next volley of angry red-orange bolts that came her way.
These were not the controlled shots of rifles or carbines she realized grimly as her attackers came into view. There were three of them, Stormtroopers in snow kit and each was lugging a massive multi-barreled heavy repeater.
Tyra calmed her momentary panic. Yes there would be too many bolts for her to block if they all opened up at once, but she didn't need to block them all.
"Give it up Jedi." the lead trooper called to her in that eerily augmented voice that came compliments of the helmet filters.
She said nothing in reply, bringing her blade up as she stared back at their unblinking visors defiantly.
Had she not been attuned to the Force, Tyra would have died in the next moment as the repeaters' barrels spun and spat their angry bolts at her. However the Force was her ally and it told her exactly when they were going to fire and where. She raised her blade and in an intricate dance she wove through the fusillade as she moved towards her foes. Whatever else they may have been, she could not deny their bravery. They stood their ground even as she advanced inexorably towards them through the storm.
A veil of steam rose around the battle field as the snow evaporated in midair under the withering heat of the continuous blasterfire and lightsaber movement. Tyra felt at peace as she moved from one motion to the next, dodging the deadly intent of her enemies with each Force guided step or sending a bolt flying wild as she parried. She did not have the control to send the energy back at her opponents but that wasn't needed right now, what was needed was distance, or rather the closing of the distance between herself and the troopers.
The first bolt to slip past her guard stung her shoulder. It broke the rhythm of her movements enough that three more struck in quick succession, each more painful than the last. She'd already prepared the Force weave necessary though and as each blast struck her she absorbed the energy into her body, using it to fuel her advance and power further absorption as more shots found their mark.
Tyra's master had taught her this technique once she'd mastered the saber and built her own. He had warned her that while it could take the destructive energies of a weapon into her body and channel that energy to fuel her power there was a limit. Eventually she would need an outlet or her body would be destroyed. Her outlet was before her. The troopers, seeing their shots either batted away harmlessly or absorbed with seemingly no effect began to slacken their rate of fire, stepping back from her advance. She could sense their ill ease and found herself delighting in their fear.
Immediately she smashed the elation, sensing something wrong in her reaction, yet it rose up again as impossible to control as the energy building inside of her with each strike from a bolt that slipped through her guard. She was nearing her limit, beginning to lose control. Soon she'd either have to release the energy or be burned up from within.
With a savage cry that she hardly recognized as her own she thrust her palms forwards. There was a vicious kick as she unleashed a wave of pure power towards the troopers. The bolts already in flight scattered as if they'd suddenly become solid and been struck by a strong wind, the heavy repeaters shattered like toys, and the Stormtroopers themselves were picked up like ragdolls and thrown into their screams vanishing into the howling winds of the snowy wastes.
Tyra stood in the midst of a smoking depression created from the raw energy she'd unleashed. Sweat coated her body despite the temperature being well below freezing. Her eyes were scrunched shut as she tried to concentrate, to calm herself, to quell the fires she'd unleashed inside of herself. Slowly she released her grip on her saber, letting the blade extinguish as she held the hilt loosely in her hands. With a deep, calming breath she opened her eyes and surveyed the crater around her.
There was no trace of the troopers or their weapons. She felt a moment's satisfaction in her victory but then the physical toll of her actions kicked in. The aches and pains came suddenly, washing over her in a crippling wave that dropped her to a knee. It hurt as much as one of her master's physical training routines had when she was a Padawan. She'd thought she was beyond such physical pain, apparently not. Gathering her strength she got back to her feet, letting the Force flow through her, soothing sore muscles and easing the burn of the energy backlash.
As she collected herself once more, Tyra felt the call of Echo Base once more. Something was reaching out to her from the icy compound and she meant to find out what it was. Steeling herself against the cold once more, she set out towards the base, the strange ripple in the Force guiding her footsteps back towards whatever awaited her within the frozen past.
Once more, I've cooked up something based on someone else's piece.
