Jango looked around at the snowy expanse of the woods surrounding him. It was in a place like this that the men and women under his command had been wiped out by the Jedi. It had been another time, another planet, but the place was the same. Snow shrouded trees over broken ground blanketed in white. He took a deep breath, focusing on the present and the job at hand.
"Come on Aira-ty, we need to-!"
A cloud of white powder burst over Jango's head as little pricks of ice trickled under his armor and dampened his shirt. He turned to find his partner and sometimes lover Aira-ty Nokta laughing at him.  Jango clenched and unclenched his fists as Aira-ty pointed at him.
"You should see the look on your face!"
"We have a job to do Aira-ty," he said with a scowl. "And I'm your Mandalore, you should-!"
Another snowball hit Jango in the face and he stood there glaring at the green haired woman as she snickered at him.
She gave him an apologetic smile and held his helmet out to him. He took it and made to put it on, only to have a bucket full of snow upended on his head.
"Some Mandalore," she snickered as he lowered his arms and clipped his helmet to his hip.
"Alright that's it." Jango growled as he came at her, pushing her over into the snow as they tumbled together on the ground.
"Ah! No!" Aira-ty yelped as Jango dumped two fistfuls of white powder on her.
"You asked for this! " Jango declared with an involuntary smile as his dour mood vanished in the face of their levity.
The pair of them tussled in the snow as both of them laughed and flung snow at one another as Aira-ty made half-hearted attempts to get Jango off of her.
"Ah!" She shrieked with raised hands. "I give I give.!"
Jango smiled, looking down at her affectionately.  Since she'd recovered from the trauma of losing her aliit Aira-ty has become a playful and mischievous woman. There were times of course when her dreams were haunted by the deaths in her past, but by and large she had recovered. It surprised him how easily she could make him smile when little else could. As she looked up at him with her golden vertically slit eyes he found his lips moving without thought.
"I love you."
The words hung in the air with his frosting breath between them for a moment as their significance sank in. Aira-ty's eyes widened and her features reddened as she looked away from him uncertainly. Jango touched his gloved fingers to her cheek, cupping her face in his hand as he looked at her with uncommon gentleness.
"Was that the wrong thing to say? "
Aira-ty shook her head, her expression flickering in a frown.
"No, I just...we should get back to the job. "
Jango nodded, his mood dampened as he let Aira-ty up and helped her to her feet.
"Right, the job. "
The cold seemed to settle around his shoulders suddenly despite the heavy cloak he wore. His heart warmed however as Aira-ty reached down and took a hold of his hand, interlacing her fingers with his.  Jango smiled, holding her hand tightly as they walked together through the snow draped woods.
This is a gift of sorts for rayn44 's birthday inspired by her recent artwork of Jango and Aira-ty playing in the snow.

I would link to it but I wrote this on my phone and providing links is a pain.

Happy birthday Rayn!

Ahah, now with a computer I can link this properly: Winter fun by rayn44
