So I had work yesterday, specifically I was confined to work and thus limited in what I could do (study, clean, nap and watch TV).

Because of this I ended up watching The Lord of the Rings trilogy in what free time I had as it was playing. I sadly missed The Fellowship of the Ring (my favorite) and came in about halfway through The Two Towers.

Now I hadn't watched these movies in ages, several years at least, and had not really felt the inkling to do so despite watching the Hobbit films avidly. However seeing them for the first time in such a long time yesterday really gave me the ability to sit back and enjoy them for what they were.

I honestly was surprised how well put together the films are, I think over the years I've begun to take for granted just how much was done technically with these films. The CG and model effects are very well done and in the case of the former almost revolutionary in the level of detail captured by it while the latter uses the time honored role of miniatures to great effect.

I even found myself falling in love with the characters all over again...though I did notice one thing that surprised me. None of hte girls in the film are really all that attractive. That isn't to say that they aren't beautiful, they are, but it's funny to me how much is focused on the boys in the film and making them look good.

I had a good laugh at that, no wonder there are so many fangirls out there!

So in summary, I greatly enjoyed seeing the movies again and am glad I caught them when I could. It gave me a renewed appreciation for the artistry that went into creating them.
