So something that writing my current little Lord of the Rings AU has done is remind me just how different the movies are from the books. I'd already known about a good deal of those differences myself so I wasn't too worried about it really, but this writing project has shown me just how many people only know the movies and not the books.
The most common thing I've seen is: why didn't the elves/dwarves help more?
The fact is, they did.
The dwarves fought heavily in the north alongside men from the Kingdom of Dale, during one of the biggest battles Dain, King Under the Mountain (remember him from the third Hobbit movie?) dies alongside Bard's grandson King Brand. In addition the dwarves sent a force of fighters to Minas Tirith to help hold the city against Sauron's army during the siege. Interestingly, there are seven dwarf clans total and at least one of these (possibly as many as four of the clans) fought on the side of Sauron in the war.
As for the elves, both Lothlorien and Mirkwood were attacked by Sauron and while the elves appear to be removed and distant in the movies they actually fight a series of brutal battles against Sauron's forces in the north (alongside men and dwarves), eventually assaulting and destroying their fortress at Dol Guldur and driving Sauron and his allies out of the north entirely (even Thranduil in all his magnificent asinine glory fights in these battles alongside Galadriel and her husband Celeborn).
The movies (for obvious screentime and storytelling reasons) do not go into this northern war ever, and admittedly the books do not go into much detail either, but they do mention the battles and Gandalf even speaks of the death of Dain, saying that while it is tragic that he passed, that he died as impressive a warrior as when he'd been much younger (Dain was over 200 when he died).
There are of course numerous other differences but that one is the most mentioned I've seen so I figured I might as well mention it.
Now for something else entirely.
I've posted a few different things in the past couple days and apparently people aren't getting updates(?) of these postings.
Can you guys confirm/deny whether you're seeing updates from me please so I can figure out if it's an isolated thing or widespread?
Also I'm unable to view who faves my work which is kinda annoying.
If it is a bigger problem I will bug the help desk and see what they can say about it.

Annoyances as a Commissioner
I feel like getting this off my chest because this has happened multiple times now and it almost feels like I need to spell this out at the risk of being highly arrogant. I consider myself to be a fairly decent commissioner. Artists that have worked with me know that I will provide every reference I possibly can and where I am unable to do so I am more than happy to allow artistic leeway and interpretation so that the artist doesn't feel at all restrained by the limitations of my inability to provide said references in those cases. However, if I come to you with a full set of references for characters, scene, and posing, and you can't even be bothered to look at them and just ask me repeatedly which characters and how they should be posed etc...why are you even asking me for references? If you cannot be bothered to click the link I've provided and view the files I have taken the time to gather to try and make this as easy for you as possible, the hell are we communicating for? At

Hades Wing to Empire at War
So I cannot believe this is happening, but one of my fanfiction projects is actually being added into an Empire at War mod. I was contacted by a modder who read my very first Star Wars fanfiction, Hades Wing, and they informed me that they've been working on recreating my cast of ships and characters from Hades Wing in Empire at War. So far they've got Hades Wing's custom TIE bomber design, the TIE/db which they are finishing the modeling of for in game implementation. They wanted to get my permission to included the rest of Hades Wing as minor heroes, with the various squadrons of the wing becoming minor hero units in the game as well as a hero cruiser to represent their command ship. Honestly this is incredible. Out of all my Star Wars stories, this oldest of them, with all its clunky flaws and writing faux pas, is apparently the one to inspire a modder to recreate its cast in one of the most beloved Star Wars games ever. I'm genuinely shocked and honored, and I've asked that
Kaira: Updating a Story
So years ago I wrote something rather silly. In this we see Kahan face off against a newly incumbent Darth Vader some three years after the Clone Wars have ended and it is here that Kahan realizes who Vader is, and subsequently defeats him. At the time I wrote this, it was very much playing off the idea used in one of the older comics where Vader falls victim to Yoda's mind games and my just having fun with Kahan trouncing Anakin. However in all honesty this story needs to be redone, as the idea doesn't make sense for the way I want Kahan and Aira-ty's story to go. Vader can't have a grudge against a powerful Jedi who made a fool out of him and got away with it. So I'll be revisiting this story and I hope everyone will enjoy the results.
