Hekkiton romped into the cave where he and his mother made their home, running happily about the confines of their rocky home as his mother followed behind him at a more sedate pace. He turned to look up at her happily, a toothy dragon's smile writ across his features as he spread his undeveloped wings above him.
“Thank you mother!” he crowed.
“You're welcome little one.” his mother replied.
Her eyes shown brightly in the cave, where both hers and Hekkiton's blue scales blended into the shadows. She lowered herself down to the warmth of the cave floor, the hot earth beneath the rocks heating the stones as Hekkiton rushed to her side, still charged from the day's outing.
“Do you think I'll be able to fly one day like you?” Hekkiton asked hopefully as his mother curled her tail around him and touched his snout with her own.
“I know it little one.” his mother assured him as she nuzzled against him, pushing him back against her flank as she tucked her tail around him. “You'll grow into your wings.”
Hekkiton couldn't help the giddy smile that played across his long muzzle as he licked his mother's snout affectionately, pressing his scaled head against her nose and feeling her breath on his own scales. His mother rich rumbling voice greeted him as she tucked her head in close over his, closing him off from the world and sealing him safely within her embrace.

“Hush thee, my baby, the night is upon us
And black are the skies that shown so blue”

Hekkiton's eyes drifted sleepily as his mother's entire body vibrated with the song, his undeveloped wings twitched against his back as he rested against the gentle rise and fall of his mother's breathing.

“The moon, o’er the clouds, looks downward to find us
At rest in the caverns that nestle between”

The little dragon yawned noisily within his mother's embrace, his eyes closing as he tucked his head in against his flank. His mother closed her wing over him, sealing him against her protectively as she lowered her head and continued her rumbling lullaby.

“Where boulder meets boulder, lay soft by my shoulder
Oh weary wee wingling, curl at thy ease
The storm shall not wake thee, nor shrike overtake thee
Asleep in the arms of the slow singing breeze!”

Hekkiton was sound asleep as his mother smiled at him tenderly, closing her own eyes as she spoke softly.

“Sleep precious one, I will be here when you wake again.”
This was inspired by Crimsonight who asked me if I could concoct a story based upon this song. I've had a plethora of ideas but this image in particular came to mind  Greatest Treasure by Crimsonight coincidentally also by Crimsonight and so I paraphrased the song and created a little mischief.
